Blogs have completely changed the way people view news and information. News is not just reported; it's reflected upon by people who care about the same topic. This is an extremely beneficial tool in the world of education. Blogs offer so much more than news reports. They offer opportunities for reflection, and very importantly, SHARING!
I already have a little experience using blogs. I currently have a blog on my school website where I will post topics and my students can comment on them. I even offer a prize for "the 15th blogger" to help increase communication between myself, my students, and parents.
I recently attended a writing institute at our region center. I met several ladies from different districts, and we were given many opportunities to share, reflect, and support each other. We exchanged email and website information so we can keep in touch. The facilitator of the workshop also set up a blog for our attendees to open up communication lines. I feel this will be very beneficial to our success as teachers.
Now that I have had positive experiences using blogs with my students, with regional colleagues, and will now have even more with using them throughout my master's program, I will now implement one for the teachers I collaborate with and mentor. I present numerous staff development sessions throughout the year, as well as share my lesson plans and resources with other teachers across the district. I love the sharing that takes place, and I learn something new from someone on a daily basis. Why not have a blog that will increase this communication and colleague support? I am already excited yet again, about the wonderful things I am learning and can easily share and implement!
