Even though I am just starting my journey toward my Master's Degree, I find what I have learned so far extremely interesting! Perhaps it's because I easily apply it to my current job. I am able to take what I have learned and immediately implement it in my classroom. I am a self-reflective person any way, and my colleagues are also self-reflective, so this process seems easy to me.
Action research involves the educator taking an active role in the research process, posing questions, collaborating with peers, and studying literature to help drive change and increase student achievement. Since student achievement is our ultimate goal, self reflection is a very important part of this process. Educators study his/her practice and implement the change after having researched it. The researcher collaborates with others to brainstorm possible solutions and to receive support and encouragement. If the educator finds that the current practice is not working, then the action research begins and continues until a solution is found.Action research is a cycle; something that should be happening all of the time since education is full of changes, and changes are what drives decisions which affects our students.
Though student achievement is our ultimate goal, the action research process boosts teaching practices, thus benefiting many stakeholders involved. I look forward to continuing to use action research to improve my teaching practices and increase student achievement on my campus.
