Wow! What a journey so far...and it's just begun. This week I have discussed possible research topics with my site supervisor, and we made a little headway, but not as much as I would like. When discussing the possible topics, my supervisor told me research was not her strong suit, which made me feel relieved I am not the only one that has weaknesses, but a little stressed.
We did come to an agreement that it needed to be on writing, but weren't sure as to what aspect I should research. So, I visited with my assistant principal, and he offered some suggestions that allowed me to narrow my topic a bit more, and I really think I've decided on one I would like to go with. The suggested wondering: The impact of critical writing across the curriculum on student achievement.
I am the fourth grade writing teacher, and since our writing scores were low, and writing is part of our campus improvement plan, I think this would be a great topic. I am very passionate about writing, and I already believe all students should be writing in every subject every day to some extent. So...what better topic to research?!
I will meet with my site supervisor this week to discuss the proposed topic. I am feeling much better about the research project, and look forward to continuing on this journey!
I worked at a school were we had a program called Date Grant. Teachers got together to develop a curriculum that had one subject in another subject. For example, English teachers had students write about math topics currently being taught and math teachers had students write about the steps to solve an equation using proper English. Our TAKS scores went up that year.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paola for the info. That is actually what I have in my mind right now. I am very excited to meet with my colleagues for a brainstorming session! Please let me know if you have any more information, or any suggestions that might be useful. Thanks for your input!
